Study Mode: Part time/ Full-Time
Duration: 1 Year
Commencement: Jan, April, July & Oct
Description
As English has now become the dominant
language of the world, communicative skills of speaking and listening are
considered important for the student's ability to integrate fully into the
British culture. At HECS, we provide education for students who come from all
over the world, ensuring that this rich cultural diversity is reflected in the
teaching. To ensure the high success rate in the exam results, we employ well
qualified and experienced tutors and keep the class size deliberately low.
Classes are conducted in a friendly environment so that each student receives
considerable amount of attention from the tutor.
Course Aims
The trinity ESOL courses are for people
who have come to the UK to live or work and who intend to settle in the UK. The
courses are available at a range of different levels to meet individual needs
and focus on developing the English skills you need at work, home and as a
UK citizen. The course will develop your English in relevant situations such as
dealing with employers or schools, being able to shop or travel or express your
views and opinions. You will develop all the skills you need in English which
includes reading, writing, speaking and listening.
These courses are for adult (18+) speakers
who are non native speakers. You may be living or trying to settle in the United
Kingdom and you may be a migrant worker, refugee or asylum seekers, from settled
communities or the partner or spouse of someone who has been settled in this
country for a number of years. You are likely to have a wide range of
experiences and employment backgrounds, as well as different reasons for wanting
to learn English. You may have different standards of skills in your current
level of English. You may be very confident in speaking but need more help in
reading or writing. At the beginning of the course there will be short
assessment so we can see what level you are at and make sure you are put in the
right class.
These courses will help you develop your
English at all levels. The focus is on communication with others so that you
will learn to improve your ability to speak, listen, read and write. These
skills will be developed through using topics and situations that are familiar
and relevant to you and build on both your past and current experiences.
Entry
To determine which level of English class would be appropriate for a
prospective student we normally ask him/her to sit a short assessment paper in
informal conditions. However, students of all levels from elementary to advanced
are accepted for the course.
Available Courses
Two types of courses are offered in the
Department: Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life (SfL) and Certificates in ESOL
for Work (EfW).

qualifications. Success at Entry 3 is mandatory for students applying for
British Citizenship. The course has three start dates, in September, January and
April and you can study for one, two or three terms. These courses will help you
develop your English at all levels. The focus is on communication with others so
that you will learn to improve your ability to speak, listen, read and write.
These skills will be developed through using topics and situations that are
familiar and relevant to you and build on both your past and current
experiences. At the end of each term all students will take the relevant exam.
· Certificates in ESOL for Work (EfW) * -
Trinity ESOL for Work qualifications will be available at two levels of
competence: Entry 3 and Level 1.

The Writing component of Unit 2 is assessed at a level below Speaking and
Listening and Reading in the qualification.
Both units must be passed to gain the

The assessment tasks within these
qualifications are designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of UK-based

depth of skill in communicating through English in the workplace environment.
The nature of the examinations is such that the emphasis is on intelligibility,
confidence and genuine ability to communicate rather than on text book learning.
